Word was received here today that Hon. Marion Burns had passed away at his home in Cleveland.  Mr. Burns was well known in this city, having resided here until his removal to Cleveland in 1877.

Marion Burns was the son of Rev. Andrew Burns, a well-known and respected minister in the Disciple Church.  He was born in the county and was about 55 years of age at the time of his death.  He studied law with the late Barnabas Burns, the well known attorney, and became a member of the Richland County Bar, which will meet tomorrow at the common pleas court room at 2 p.m. to take action in regard to his death.

Mr. Burns was a state senator from this district two terms, from 1872 to 1876.  He represented the district with great credit to himself and to his constituents.  He was the author of the celebrated Burns law, which provides for and regulates the taxation of corporations. 

His war record is worthy of note.  He enlisted under Captain A.C. Cummins in April, 1861, for the three months service, responding to President Lincoln's first call for troops.  He was elected second sergeant immediately after the organization of the company and served as such until the company re-enlisted after the expiration of the three months.  He enlisted for the three years' service and was promoted to the rank of lieutenant September 12, 1861, his commission being issued October 17, 1861.  He served as first lieutenant until April 30, 1862, when he was promoted to the rank of captain, receiving his commission May 10, 1862.  He resigned his commission March 18, 1863.  He was afterwards adjutant of the 163rd. regiment O.N.G.

A.M. Burns was special agent of the treasury department under President Hayes with headquarters at Cleveland and was afterwards assistant city solicitor of Cleveland.

Mr. Burns was united in marriage to Miss Anna L. Miller of this city prior to his departure from here.  They resided for some time on West Fourth Street, and afterwards boarded at the College.  He leaves a wife and a son to mourn his death.

Funeral will be held Thursday and interment will be made in Mansfield Cemetery.

Hon. A.M. Burns was a cousin to Mrs. George Mitchell, ex-County Clerk Burns, J.H. Burns, Barnabas Burns and Miss Kate Burns of this city.
